Study Mode

So I'm putting myself into study mode for the next year. I won't be trying to crank out as much as I can, but learn as much as I can in concentrated sessions. Today I did some material studies.

Long Time No Post

Haven't posted in a looooooooooong time. So here's some stuff I've been working on! These are some character concepts for a short film some friends and I work developing.

Sleepy Under the Sea

Did a quick sketch during a meeting of Spongebob knocked out after an ice cream binge.

Ta-da, the avocado found his other half and is floating away lol (it's me and my girlfriend as avocados- yay!) :D

Avocado

Drew too many avocados today, so I made another one lol. Painting style inspired by the super awesome Goro Fujita :)

Slacking

I know, I'm slacking. But I've got a bunch of work on the back burner. Here's a watercolor I did on the weekend, focused more on color than anything. It was fun, more watercolor to come!

I haven't really done much still life work, thought I'd go back to the basics. I'm more or less a self taught painter; didn't take any traditional painting classes in school unfortunately. So, I decided that I need to round out my skills a bit better, picked up some more books and tutorials on painting down to the very basic skills of painting light and shadow.

To help me along with that, I found this super awesome site: ctrlpaint.com
It's a great site by artist Matt Kohr, teaching basics of digital painting and different tips and tricks to better your skills amateur and pro alike.

Fairly Oddparents X Hey Arnold!

So awesome news, I got the internship at Nickelodeon! Haven't posted in a while due to me freaking out about it in anticipation of getting that awesome phone call. I did the sketch for this a couple weeks ago and just got around to finishing it! It's Cosmo and Wanda and Arnold!

Update:  It didn't look finished to me, so I messed with the curves a bit, did some color correction, splashes of sun and little effects from Cosmo and Wanda. I think it looks much better now.

Powdered Toast Man!

Decided to do one of my favorite characters from Ren & Stimpy, thanks to the topic over at Planet-Pulp, "Saturday Morning TV!".  Awesome blog to follow, definitely recommend it. I had a lot of fun with this! Such an awesome character, flying with powdered flatulence!

Logo

Been working on some rebranding. Here's a logo I've been working on for a while, doing a bunch of variations of it. Can you guess the inspiration behind the creature?

Steampunk Dude

Did a steampunk character based off of a steampunk Abe Lincoln I saw somewhere on the internet. Tried a different painting approach, broader and quicker strokes. Gonna do another one with another different painting style and see which I like best.

Spongebob X Reptar

Haven't posted in a while but I've got a bunch of stuff I just haven't scanned in yet. Here's a painting of Spongebob as Mermaid Man and Patrick as Barnacle Boy, featuring REPTAR! Sketched out on paper, inked in Photoshop and painted in ArtRage. First time with ArtRage, it's an amazing program!
